Avoid Envy to Find Success

Envy, if surrounded on all sides by the brightness of another’s prosperity, like the scorpion confined within a circle of fire, will sting itself to death. – Charles Caleb Colton

Success can be elusive when the driver is envy. What I am not saying is that you shouldn’t look up with admiration to the people who are successful in your field. A good deal of how we improve is by emulating the good of those we look up to and expanding on it. Learn the lessons of their mistakes. Identify how you can use their methods to move your own needle of success.

But beware of jealousy and envy. The toxin of a scorpion’s sting causes a painful, tingling, burning sensation. Jealousy and envy produce a toxin of negativity and burning rage that will consume you. When you surrender to jealousy and envy you become engulfed in a ring of fire that will guarantee your failure. You become paralyzed. You start to see a reality that only exists in your mind. You stop working on yourself and start working on ways to darken the light of another.

When striving for success avoid envy and jealousy. Allow the brightness of another’s prosperity to guide you on your path. Admire those who are successful, adopt and emulate the good things they do and then expand on them to begin finding your own success.
