Be a Better Leader with Active Communication

Do you wait for questions, answers, problems to explode or do you communicate actively? If you are waiting you will end up always putting out fires.

Non-management team members usually take a passive approach to communication, trusting that their leaders and peers will tell them what they need to know when they need to know it.  When a non-management team member transitions to a leader of a team requires them to shift from passive communication to an active one. However, we find that many remain a passive communicator.

In highly productive teams you will rarely find leaders who are passive communicators because it simply doesn’t work. The team won’t know where they stand, their focus on the goal won’t be as sharp. Challenges and changes won’t stay top-of-mind and innovation comes slow if it appears at all. The most effective leaders are the ones who constantly manage the needs of their team by managing up, down and across and this requires active communication.

Be a better leader by being an active communicator. This is the first thing you need to do to start managing the needs of your team. Look ahead, anticipate needs and changes and meet with your team without them soliciting your time.
