Tuesday Tip: Don’t Be the Goat

2015 is the year of the goat according to the Chinese zodiac. In the Chinese zodiac people born in the year of the goat are thought to love peace, and to be helpful and trusting. That isn’t the goat I am talking about here.

Every office has a person or people who like to instigate drama and get people going. Once they get people wound up, they sit back and watch. They are looking for a goat to ride. They are looking for entertainment. When they find a goat to ride productivity, morale and engagement diminishes.

Don’t be the goat. Don’t let them get you all wound up and in a tizzy. If you can’t help yourself and find that you are getting upset don’t show it. Don’t let them learn where your buttons are. By ignoring it and not giving them the satisfaction of seeing you get upset or spun out you take away their power.
