Everyone knows that the only thing that is constant is change. Despite that fact, everyone doesn’t understand it. Maybe change is one of those “it won’t happen to me” things. Whatever the reason, we inherently resist change and in some cases try to foil it.
Resisting change or purposefully placing obstacles in its way does nothing more than waste time. It wastes the time of the people who agreed that change is necessary. It wastes your time because while you are resisting or sabotaging it you could have moved on to something new and most likely better.
At the end of the day, one of two things will happen when you resist change. They find out and let you go or you finally get tired of resisting and leave on your own. The problem with either of these endings is that you have wasted time, your time. You have robbed yourself of something new, exciting, positive and good.
You have delayed your happiness and prolonged your misery. Lost time in developing your career. Not seizing the opportunity and building upon your accomplishments. You are not doing them a favor by hanging on thinking that you will make it difficult for them or that if you resist long enough it will go away.
As a race of people, we do not do endings well, in any aspect of our life. But when you finally get around to ending that which is not helping you, the weight of the world will lift off your shoulders. Your world will become vibrant and sunny, feelings of happiness and peace begin to overwhelm you. There may even be some excitement for the possibilities of what could come. And at that moment you begin to wonder why it took you so long to act.
Do something your future self will thank you for. Don’t rob yourself of time, happiness and peace. When you can’t change and move forward then you need to get off the team.
