No It Isn’t a Tattoo

The view on tattoos is changing ever so slowly. They are becoming less associated with riff-raff and viewed more as an expression of individuality. Tattoos are permanent fixtures that become a part of your overall appearance. In most cases, they are an expression of your inner thoughts, desires, and loyalty. Sometimes people will get them in places that can be covered up and sometimes they are in places that can’t be. Either way, people proudly display their body art.

Sometimes people will judge those with tattoos as rough. They may fear them or not let them into their circle or places of employment. Those with a negative view of tattoos simply don’t understand their purpose nor do they seek to understand.

What isn’t a tattoo? Mistakes. Mistakes are not a permanent picture of your past. They do not predict your future. When you are meeting someone for the first time you can’t easily see where they have been, what they have been through, or what they have overcome.

Mistakes are similar to tattoos in the sense that some people are proud of the mistakes they made. They display their mistakes by associating the lessons learned from them to their current state of being. Others cover up their mistakes by finger-pointing and coming up with creative excuses behind why they were made or blaming others for the situation they have put themselves in. Sometimes they will lie about their mistakes working diligently to ensure others don’t uncover them.

Sometimes getting a tattoo is considered living. They can represent a snapshot of time in your life. They can demonstrate an adventurous mindset. What else is considered living? What else is demonstrating adventure? Mistakes. Mistakes represent overcoming fear, taking a chance, and trying to improve or having a breakthrough.

Mistakes aren’t a tattoo. They aren’t permanent. They aren’t easily visible. They are something to be proud of because without those mistakes you wouldn’t be where you are today. You wouldn’t be the person so many have come to know, love, and cherish.
