In honor of National Boss’s day, October 16th here is a peek into the thought process of a bad boss.
A bad boss thinks differently. They may be new to leading others or they may just have a bad case of arrogance. As if how a bad boss thinks isn’t bad enough some also suffer from loose lips syndrome. That is where what they think becomes the spoken word.
These are prime examples of how a bad boss thinks.
If you are going to think this way you shouldn’t be leading others or at the very least don’t act on or speak them.
- I don’t support this plan and I will drop passive-aggressive hints along the way.
- I know my plan is not the right one but no one better disagrees with me.
- I don’t want to admit there is a communication problem nor will I listen if someone points it out.
- I don’t micro-manage but I have to make sure they tell me everything that is going on.
- I know the data is inaccurate but it proves my point.
- I’ve already made my decision but I will ask my team what they think of it but stick to my decision.
- I will pose it as a suggestion and they better recognize that I am the one who is making it.
- The idea was good our customers are just stupid and don’t know what they want.
- I must have given them the impression that their voice would affect my decision.
- We need to meet our goals so I will freeze all vacation time except for mine.
Have no fear if you know this is how your boss thinks. Knowing how they think empowers you to take control over your own success. Knowing how a bad boss thinks gives you the best examples of how to think and act better. Embrace your bad boss on National Boss’s day because they show you what not to do.
