Lend Your Influence

Leadership is an influence, and as a leader, your impact wields high power. Some leaders fail to realize just how powerful their influence is or how to use that power to help others.

Lending your influence encourages people to see things in others; they may not otherwise see. Giving it to others is one of the most important things you can do today. When a leader lends their influence they open the floodgates that allow others to shine, help to build confidence, and increase engagement. Giving your influence creates an inclusive environment.

How to Create More Inclusion by Lending Influence:

  • In a meeting – so everyone has a voice
  • When assigning a team to a project – to help others use their expertise
  • Establishing credibility – to help new hires or quiet contributors provide solutions
  • Recovering from failure – to help people move past a prior indiscretion in the eyes of a critic

These are important and extremely productive times to lend influence. Stop hoarding the power that comes from the weight of your authority and start using it to help others use their voice. Remember that leaders aren’t just those with a title if you are viewed as a leader by your peers you can lend your influence too.
