“Success has no idle hands; affords no legs at rest.” – Johnnie Dent Jr.
There is no greater enemy to your career success than complacency. Complacency is what keeps you from advancing, it keeps you from growing and ultimately renders you irrelevant. It single handedly will stall your engine of greatness. When you grow complacent your sense of urgency decreases. You lose your anxiety and fear, both of which are the truest drivers of motivation.
I’m not suggesting that you shouldn’t feel happy and content with how far you have come along. It is really important that you celebrate those milestones. But don’t let yourself get to a level of comfortability that causes you to lose your hunger for change.
Change is always needed, regardless of how wildly successful you feel you are. What you are doing today, the knowledge you have today, can always be improved and expanded. But you won’t see that if you allow your hands to be idle and rest your legs. Remain famished for success, don’t overfeed that hunger. Keep the fire that burns deep inside from being extinguished, continue to fuel it. You are wealthy enough to afford to learn something new.
